What we love

One of the best hotels in the Caribbean by a long way - we LOVE Sugar Beach. From the stunning interior design to the unparalleled setting between the Pitons. Views, service and rooms.stunning.

Sugar Beach by Viceroy, Val Des Pitons

114 Rooms & Suites

Setting the scene

St Lucia's iconic emblems are the twin Piton mountains and Sugar Beach has been somehow expertly wedged in between them, with white clap-board rooms, residences and bungalows tumbling down the hillside towards the stunning stretch of beach and crystal clear sea. The chic, luxurious interior design somehow beautifully combines colonial Caribbean style, with New-England beach living, mixed with white shutters and muslin curtains blowing in the breeze at the windows. Add to this a great level of service, excellent water-sports facilities, exceptional social spaces and a unique, world-class 'Rainforest' spa, and you have a hotel that not only has something for everyone, but that does it stylishly and beautifully.

Sleeping

With 96 rooms and 18 privately owned residences, think airy, contemporary spaces, with bright white walls and furnishings, dark wood floors, beautifully curated art and the kind of bathroom you wish you had at home. Guestrooms, villas and beach bungalows have something to offer to everyone, including private pools, plenty of privacy and peace - and views to die for.

Eating

The Great Room provides evening-time fine dining in grand, stylish surroundings, while in contrast the Bayside Restaurant provides laid back a la carte dining right on the beach for lunch and dinner. A delicious breakfast is served on the ground floor of the elegant Great House, with lovely views of the gardens and lily ponds, stretching down to the sea. The bars and lounges are seriously stylish and wouldn't be out of place in London or New York, but with an unmistakable Caribbean charm thrown in.

Doing

This incredible stretch of beach (the seascape between the Pitons is world-renowned) offers exceptional watersport and diving opportunities - all available in-house. The fitness facilities rival some of the best city gyms we have ever seen, and the Spa is awesome. The beautiful beach is an attraction in itself, and the swimming pool is one of the largest we've found in a hotel, but is still peaceful and relaxed, making the most of the stunning views. St Lucia offers so much as a destination and the hotel organises tours to nearby rainforest, zip lines and waterfalls. But for the truly energetic, we recommend a trek to the top of Gros Piton: hard work, but the view from the top is unforgettable.

Playing

Sugar Beach has a truly fantastic kids club, Generation V, for children between the ages of 4 and 12, and a range for teenage activities. Activities range from table tennis to treasure hunts, coconut bowling to Kayaking and a complimentary junior sailing programme. The kids club also makes the most of the hotels' amazing setting, including fish feeding and sand castle building! The layout of this hotel ensures room flexibility for families and a really family-friendly environment, but not encroaching on couples enjoying the peace and setting of the resort.

Arriving

Hewannorra International Airport is a 40 minute journey by car - but do note that this is a wonderful drive, with some beautiful sights on the way. St Lucia is a beautiful, authentic and unique Caribbean island.
