What we love
Refreshing, uncluttered design, endless sea views and an emphasis on luxury come hand-in-hand with a family-friendly ambience at Almyra. Plus, it has a fantastic location near the city but far enough away that you still feel like you're escaping.
Setting the scene
Tucked away within eight acres of coastal gardens, with the buzz of Paphos never far away, Almyra is a chic, contemporary hideaway on Cyprus' southern coast. Straight lines, minimalist decor and plenty of light - not to mention fresh sea air - create a serene feel, and five-star service leaves you wanting for nothing. Sit down with a drink, and before you know it you've whiled away hours just looking out to sea.
All of Almyra's rooms and suites feature crisp, monochrome interiors that draw attention to the vivid blues and greens outside; views are of the gently undulating gardens or the twinkling Mediterranean Sea. There are several two-bedroom suites and interconnecting rooms ideal for families, many of which offer private balconies or terraces. Our top pick is the Kyma Suite, with spacious living areas, a private lawn area and an expansive terrace perfect for sun downers to the sound of the lapping sea.
Thanos Hotels likes you to be spoilt for choice - and Almyra is no exception. Between field fresh salads, hearty local favourites and Japanese tasting menus, one thing that can't be said about Almyra's food scene is that it lacks variation or creativity. Highlights for us are the Japanese-Mediterranean creations at Notios, the light, local dishes on offer by the sea at Ouzeri, and the flowing meze at Zen Meze. The Black Table Dinner is more celebratory, as the chef and sommelier join forces to create a unique Asian-Mediterranean fusion menu accompanied by delicious wines just for you. If you simply can't choose, head to Mosaics, which has something for everyone, or allow the team to set up a private barbecue in your favourite spot. At sunset, we enjoyed the vibe at Flavours at Helios.
If you're feeling active, the coastal views make for a pleasant jog or bike ride, and there are mountains very close by if you like your terrain a little tougher. Thanos Hotels also offers several organised activities in the form of triathlon camps, swimming and sailing lessons with experienced instructors. Paphos itself has plenty to keep you occupied, including charming little tavernas and an atmospheric harbour. Historic sites include The House of Dionysos - known for its mosaics - and a Medieval Castle which comes to life once a year with an opera festival. If relaxing is really your style, the treatments at Almyra spa are guaranteed to transport you to an altogether more chilled place.
Almyra is a family-run hotel which prides itself on being child-friendly. Children's clubs are divided by age group and offer both activities on site and adventure days around the island. The staff at Globetrotters will ensure very young children follow their normal routine, and the 'Baby Go Lightly' service allows you to buy necessities online before you arrive, easing the stress of travelling. There is also a great little children's pool, and most restaurants cater for children.
Getting to Almyra is hassle-free, as it is just a short 8km drive from Paphos airport.
