What we love
From the charming exterior of red awnings and geraniums to the indulgent interiors and Eiffel Tower views, we love Athenee for a true taste of Paris glamour.
Setting the scene
Nestled amongst the designer boutiques of leafy Avenue Montaigne, five minutes' walk from the Champs Elysee, newly renovated Plaza Athenee offers five star luxury in the heart of the city. The hotel has been at the forefront of the Paris hotel scene since its opening in 1911; and behind its signature facade of red awnings and geraniums it has changed little. Interiors are classically French - imposing and lavish, with luxuriant fabrics and plenty of colour; while views span the chestnut trees and the rooftops out to Montmartre hill and the Eiffel Tower.
Stepping into the Rooms and Suites at Athenee is like stepping back in time, and you can take your pick from French Regency or Art Deco style. Either way, you'll enjoy the finest quality fabrics money can buy - gold thread work, velvets and taffeta - as well as original paintings and antique furniture. All suites offer seating areas, with larger Suites having separate lounges and bedrooms. As the name suggests, Eiffel Suites have romantic views over the tower (including from the shower in the Signature Eiffels) and the Royal Suite is the hotel's piece de resistance, with four bedrooms, one-off antiques and spacious bathrooms in head-to-toe Veronese marble.
Celebrated chef Alain Ducasse oversees the food at both Plaza Athenee and The Dorchester Collection's other Parisian hotel, Le Meurice. Athenee provides lots of options, including a fine dining restaurant featuring Alain's own creations; Le Relais Plaza - for brasserie food including traditional grills; La Cour Jardin - open spring to autumn and serving seasonal dishes; La Terrasse Montaigne for lighter snacks in good weather; and La Galerie for divine pastries from Cristophe Michalak.
It's all about getting out and about to enjoy the city. If shopping is your thing you're in the right place - you'll find Dior, Chanel, Vuitton, Prada, Valentino and Hermes on the doorstep. You're walking distance from the romantic River Seine and many sights, including the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay and the Eiffel Tower. The concierge at Athenee will be delighted to assist with guides, theatre or concert bookings and restaurant reservations; and when all that gets too much, we recommend heading to the Dior Institut for relaxing treatments or a personal training session with Marc Carpentier.
The majority of rooms can be interconnected, making things easier for families, and the hotel concierges have plenty of ideas up their sleeves when it comes to family outings. The hotel's housekeepers can also arrange babysitting through a specialist nanny agency if you'd like to go out for the evening.
The hotel is easily reached by taxi - within an hour - from both Charles de Gaulle and Orly Airports, and in less than half an hour from the largest train stations.
