The Romanos, Costa Navarino

321 Rooms & Suites

Setting the scene

Set within the vast virgin forests of coastal Messinia, The Romanos Resort resembles a classic village and encompasses a range of rooms, suites and villas. The resort is known for its golf - two championship courses spread over the undulating dunes, with glorious sea and river views - as well as its five star ambience and enviable setting on the southwestern coast of the Peloponnese.

Sleeping

The rooms, suites and villas at The Romanos follow the traditional style of the region and have been designed using earthy colours in-keeping with the green landscape and the blue of the Ionian Sea. Rooms on the ground floor enjoy the added benefit of private infinity pools - some with views extending over the golf course or down to sea. The rooms sleep up to three people, while suites can accommodate up to four, and villas offer more space, with up to three bedrooms, living and dining areas, and large terraces with pools.

Eating

There's a different option for every day of the week at The Romanos. Greece has wonderful fresh produce, and the dishes of the region feature across various restaurants - from the Souvlakerie, serving up juicy meat and veg wrapped in pita, to fish fresh from the sea under lamp-light at Elean, and locally sourced grilled meats and vegetables at Flame. Other options include food from across Italy at Da Luigi, where you can enjoy a film on the big screen as you dine; The Diner, which serves American classics and offers ten pin bowling and other activities; Inbi for Japanese fusion on a stylish roof-top terrace; and Margile for delicious Lebanese dishes. In addition, there are pool bars, lounges, a deli and a beach cafe - and we loved the ice cream from Kayak.

Doing

Golf is important at The Romanos. The two championship courses - The Dunes Course and The Bay Course - offer different settings for a great game. The Dunes Course, designed by golf master Bernhard Langer, stretches across the stunning dunes of Navarino, revealing beautiful sea views; while The Bay Course was designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Robert Trent Jones Jr and places a greater emphasis on stragetic play and positional golf. The courses are both 18-hole; par 72 and 71 respectively. But it isn't all about golf: there's also a fantastic, soothing spa, an extensive health club offering a gym, personal training and fitness classes, a Racquet Academy for tennis, pedal, squash and badminton, and lots of watersports and outdoor activities on offer. Further afield, Messinia has fascinating ancient history to explore.

Playing

The children's clubs at The Romanos include a creche for babies aged from four months to three years and a club for children aged four to 12. The spacious game areas include slides, design and drawing tables and a theatre style court yard. Youngsters will be able to learn about the culture and traditions of the local area through various revealing activities including eco-walks, dressing up days and crafts.
