What we love
A balcony like no other; this small, intimate hotel sits triumphantly 365m above sea level, upon a perch affording simply awe-inspiring views over the Mediterranean. We challenge anyone to find a more glorious spot than that from their infinity pool - voted the most romantic in Europe.
Setting the scene
The Belmond Caruso is a former 11th century palace, lovingly restored to its former glory to create a hotel steeped in culture and beauty on the Amalfi Coast. Guests will find themselves transported back in time, staying among the ancient walls and fresco-covered ceilings of the Belmond Hotel Caruso. The breath taking views out on Ravello and the Tyrrhenian Sea can be enjoyed from beside the infinity pool with a fresh fruit appetizer, served by your dutiful concierge, from the terraced gardens as you work out with the in-house personal trainer, or from the balcony of the Belvedere Restaurant, as you feast on the finest Mediterranean cuisine.
Setting the scene for your trip back in time to Italy's Neopolitan era, the rooms (ranging from Classic Double or Superior Double, to Deluxe), each individually designed, feature beautiful antiques, outstanding views and luxurious space and amenities. For a private hideaway, the Deluxe or Superior Junior Suites offer private gardens awash with lemon and olive trees. And for a guaranteed private garden and sweeping seaviews from the Jacuzzi bath, treat yourself with one of the Exclusive Suites - an unrivalled Italian experience. All rooms & suites enjoy marble en-suite bathrooms and amenities include Satellite TV & DVD player, writing desk, climate control and Wi-Fi.
At the Belvedere Restaurant, Head chef Mimmo Di Raffaele takes the discerning diner on "a culinary journey through the Amalfi Coast". Expect innovative cuisine inspired by traditional Italian fare.
Dine in the elegance of the dining room, al fresco on the terrace, or for a more informal experience, take to the Pool Restaurant and lunch on rustic, timeless classics such as wood-fired pizzas and lavish salad bars. All set against the back-drop of that legendary infinity pool.
The hotel's atmospheric Cocktail and Piano bar provides guests with the perfect setting to wind down after a long day. Under the magnificent 18th century frescoed ceilings, sample the extensive and innovative cocktail list including the famous Bellini.
In case you don't want to waste a second of enjoying the beauty of your bedroom, the hotel offers an in-room dining service so you can be waited on hand and foot from the luxurious surroundings of your private terrace.
The Amalfi Coast needs little introduction when it comes to the activities on offer. And by staying at Belmond Hotel Caruso you will be placing yourself at the very gateway to this hotspot. Offering a private and complimentary boat trip to Positano, this stunning voyage takes you along the rugged yet elegant coastline of Amalfi, where you will view the vibrant buildings from the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Back on land the only way to truly soak up the Amalfi Coast is via its winding roads that skirt along the coastline. And why not do so in the footsteps of Jackie Kennedy in a Fiat 600. Weave around the roads, dipping in and out of the traditional fishing villages and sampling the Italian classic, gelato. For a dazzling display, take to the roads as sunset and witness the light show at night as darkness descends and illuminates the yachts bobbing up and down in the waters below.
For a taste of culture you truly are spoilt for choice. From Belmond Hotel Caruso you can easily reach the ancient ruins of Pompeii. We urge you to arrive early though, preferably before 10am when the cruise line tourists dock, so you can enjoy the site at your leisure.
As well as the town of Amalfi itself, Sorrento and the elegant island of Capri offer endless boutique shops and museums - there is a plethora to excite all ages. In Ravello, walking distance from the hotel, you will find the pretty village square with its ancient church and plenty of lively bars and restaurants. And you will not need to stray far to invest in some Italian designer items: the hotel offers an in-house boutique where you will find superbly crafted clothing, accessories, jewellery and souvenirs. All are hand-picked or exclusively designed for the hotel.
Children are welcome at the hotel but there is no specific activity programme provided, there is a babysitting service and a children's menus in the restaurant. The area brilliantly lends itself to fun for all the family!
