What we love
The private swimming pool elegantly floats on the waters of Lake Como, which is really quite unique!
Setting the scene
Once a charming 16th century private residence, this 25 acre estate on the shores of Lake Como is now widely recognised as one of the best hotels in the world. This great accolade is more than deserved in our opinion and it's simple that from the moment you emerge in from the revolving doors you feel the cares of the modern world slip away and the warm greetings of the staff make you feel right at home.
The 152 classically styled rooms, Junior Suites and Suites are located in the original Cardinal Building or in the more intimate Queen's Pavilion, with varied garden or lake views. No 2 rooms are alike, though all boast antiques, velvet, and silk brocade capturing the classical decadence of this glorious property. The suites are elegant and incredibly spacious, none more so that the Cardinal Suite. Named after Tolomeo Gallio, who built the Villa in 1568 as his private residence, located on the first floor this suite combines the utmost refinement of a private residence with all the comforts and convenience of the hotel's staff and services. The hotel also boasts 2 magnificently renovated 19th century villas situated within the parkland, both sleeping 8 with glorious views of the hillsides or the lake.
At the Veranda restaurant you will find a gold and blue striped canopied terrace overlooking the lake and gardens serving traditional Italian haute cuisine. For an intimate and simple dinner, head for Il Platano that overlooks the lake and relax under the beamed ceiling of the cosy, recently restyled terrace. For alfresco light lunches of salads, sandwiches and fresh pasts, head out to the Sundeck overlooking their unique floating swimming pool. To fully immerse yourself in the age old tradition of taking afternoon tea, the Bar Canova is the perfect spot to transport yourself to a bygone era. Whether is be water-skiing, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing or a gentle whizz around on a speed boat, travelling by water and being on the water is the best way to explore Lake Como. Whilst the villages of Bellagio, Mennagio, Varenna and Como to name just a few are wonderful when explored on foot, winding through their ancient and cobbled streets.
