What we love
With so few places left in the world that are unspoilt it's reassuring to know that places like Park Hyatt go to so much trouble to work in harmony with nature, and this is so apparent when staying there.
Setting the scene
As the only resort in the Maldives to be certified for both design and construction by EarthCheck (the next generation of environmental certification), Park Hyatt Maldives has every right to be smug as it lounges seductively on one of the largest and deepest atolls in the world.
Sleeping is likely to be the last thing on your mind whilst staying at Park Hyatt, but it's more about the surroundings than the actual snoozing, and there are few places like this in the world where you can choose whether you want to wake up to an uninterrupted view of the Indian Ocean or surrounded by tropical vegetation with the beach just steps away. All of the 50 villas are decorated to the highest standard and some come with an additional plunge pool.
There are two restaurants on the island to choose from, The Dining Room, and The Island Grill, both offering an extensive array of local and national inspired dishes cooked to perfection. For special occasions there is a variety of private dining options, including Nature, Lagoon, Starlight and Maldivian, themed to blend in with a unique aspect of the island. For drinks there is the poolside bar and Dhoni, great places to unwind and enjoy the extensive wine list or a refreshing cocktail.
If just staring disbelievingly at the sheer beauty of the place isn't enough there is a range of activities including sunset and dolphin cruise, kayaking and sailing. Learn to dive in one of the Maldives' healthiest reefs, or fish for yourself and cook it up for supper. If that all sounds too vigorous, there is always the Vidhun spa for every type of treatment imaginable. Or failing that, flop on the beach and await an attentive waiter to meet your every need.
Children are welcome but there are no special facilities.
