What we love
The resort is home to a small family of very sweet ducks who you will often see wandering around by the beach. During my stay I even awoke to find them in my room as I had left my patio doors open whilst having a snooze!
Setting the scene
Nestled amongst coconut palms on its own private peninsular, One & Only Le Saint Geran is one of the original luxury hotels in Mauritius. Flanked on one side by the Indian Ocean and on the other by a sheltered lagoon, there is an air of maturity and decadence in this hotel that makes you feel in safe and nurturing hands. Not only are the needs of adults expertly met but children are also well catered for, and even have their own menu exclusively designed by Annabel Karmel, the best-selling author of copious books containing nutritious meals for children.
Indian Spices are the theme for the decor in the 161 suites and villa; warm, sumptuous oranges, firey reds, browns and creams in varying shades, all merged together like the carefully-selected flavours of a traditional dish. All the suites have a balcony or terrace with an ocean or cove view and a back door leading onto a tropical garden. Cascading showers turn the well-appointed bathrooms into private oases, and all rooms feature multimedia entertainment systems, wifi, a Nespresso machine and 24 hour room service.
Food isn't just a necessity at Le Saint Geran, it's a way of life, and people come from far and wide just for the culinary delights that await them there.
PRIME Contemporary Grill serves only the finest Australian Angus Wagyu beef, fresh seafood and organic produce, and for afters there's the Lounge which serves signature cocktails in time to the ambient music. (Children under 8 are not permitted). Located along the water's edge in a magnificent setting overlooking the sugercane mountains and private lagoon, The Indian Pavilion opens its doors to the discerning diner with a show kitchen that emanates aromas with mouthwatering effect. Old 'Mughlai' dishes are reinvented: succulent kebabs, kormas and parathas, paired expertly with wines from around the world. Other venues include La Terrasse which surrounds the pool for all day dining, as well as the Pool Bar and the Golf Club Bar.
There's little time for sitting around with all the activities on offer, many on a complimentary basis for guests of One & Only Le Saint Geran; delights such as glass-bottom boat trips, Hobie Cats, kayaking, snorkelling, waterskiing, and that's just for the adults! The Gary Player-designed golf course is located on the grounds as is the grass tennis courts. For the less ambitious there is a an ESPA with a private lap pool and copious treatments. Or you can just head to the beach, where the staff will ensure your every need is taking care of, they will even give your sunnies a clean for you.
Children are as welcome as a well-stuffed wallet, but you don't have to hang out with them, the staff will do that for you at Kids Only, a fully supervised club for 3-11 year-olds. The complimentary club will keep your little angels entertained from 10am to 10pm, no questions asked, and focus on discovery, education, local culture, nature, sports, arts and crafts. Famous children's food author Annabel Karmel has designed the menu for all the kids' meals so you can rest assured they will be in good hands throughout your stay.
