What we love
This stunning seafront hotel is simply astonishing; the epitome of the WOW factor. Displaying a beautiful modern twist on this once stately home, the intricate detailing throughout adds to the luxury and grandeur of this already extremely sought after and private resort.
Setting the scene
Poised on the top of the Lions Head in Bantry Bay, it's widely acknowledged that Ellerman House boasts the best ocean views to be had in South Africa. Originally a private residence, the historic Cape Edwardian-style mansion features shaded verandas and terraced indigenous gardens overlooking the ocean. We adore the elegant yet contemporary feel that's been created at this unique and intimate property with a flair for art and wine.
Alongside their 13 individually decorated rooms, their 2 luxurious and modern villas continue this theme of utter elegance - standing separately from the main house, these lavish and discreet properties without a doubt offer the most jaw dropping views we've ever seen - cleverly designed so that every room benefits from these 180 degree ocean panoramas.
Rest assured, Ellerman House is the absolute essence of exclusivity. With just 13 rooms and 2 villas, prepare yourself to live like a King or Queen throughout your stay at this intimate hotel. Every room enjoys from the glorious ocean views and they vary in size as well as the private or shared decks and terraces.
Sleek, contemporary architecture and absolute privacy define Ellerman House’s exclusive-use villas, built on multiple levels with en suite bedrooms, spacious entertainment areas, private infinity pools and ocean views. In contrast to the old-world elegance of the main house, Villa One and Villa Two add a glamorous edge to the hotel’s classic style and refined ambience. They are set away from the main house and have 3 to 5 rooms accordingly.
The restaurant at Ellerman House is not open to the public and is for the exclusive use of resident guests. Breakfast is always a gourmet spread, enjoyed on the ocean-view terrace in fine weather. The kitchen team, headed up by an experienced chef, produces daily a la carte lunch and dinner menus featuring modern, classically inspired cuisine with a South African twist. Inspired by ‘farm-to-table’ eating, the menus rely on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients of superior provenance. Everyone is encouraged to wander into the open-plan kitchen to discuss specific dietary requirements or to request a favourite dish or celebratory menu to mark a special occasion. For those who get late-night cravings or simply want a quick sandwich or light snack at any time, there is a complimentary 24-hour guest pantry stocked with everything from homemade sweet and savoury treats to chocolates, crisps and other irresistible snacks.
Wine is taken very seriously at Ellerman House too, demonstrated by its 7500-strong collection of South African wines that represent both established and emerging labels from the Western Cape’s world-renowned wine regions.
A highlight of Ellerman House is the owner’s extensive South African art collection spanning original works from the turn of the last century to current contemporary art, a separate collection of which is displayed in the Ellerman House Contemporary Art Gallery. The old English style library makes it feel like a true home away from home, housing a large array of international books and magazines. We love their Guest Pantry - a slice of Victorian living with freshly baked pastries and homemade treats available throughout the day for guests to enjoy. Meanwhile, a fully quipped gym and extensive spa is available to guests accompanied by professionals to guide you through. The heated pool offers serene relaxation; again, boasting the best views around.
The villas are perfect for children; your private villa staff will cater for your every need and all children's accessories will be placed in the property ahead of your arrival. Relax in a private pool and be happy in the knowledge that the little ones are in safe surroundings. Concierge will arrange transport to and from wherever required, whether it be to further afield out of the city or the short journey into the city centre. We thoroughly recommend Ellerman House for groups and families alike.
Just a short 25 minute journey to and from the airport.
