Setting the scene
River Lodge is where Lion Sands began and perfectly captures the ethos of the this luxury game reserve. Set alongside the Sabie River you're rewarded with exceptional sightings of wildlife from the comfort of the lodge. You'll experience a sophisticated concept of traditional lodging with incredibly designed architecture and an emphasis on clean and simple decor throughout.
Located in the Sabi Sand Reserve alongside the Sabie River, Lion Sands River Lodge offers 18 rooms for 38 guests. 8 Luxury rooms have en-suites, a lounge area with mini bar and wooden deck from which to appreciate the wildlife. 6 Superior Luxury rooms are larger in size, and have ample open-plan bathrooms and outdoor showers, 4 of the 6 Rooms are interconnecting, and are therefore ideal for families. Finally there are 4 River Suites located further from the public areas and are therefore more private. They have incredible river views, best appreciated from the decks. These Suites all have their own private plunge pools and also outdoor showers.
The dining experience includes the signature riverbed dinners and deck dining, in the shade of the trees and overlooking the Sabie River. Breakfast is a home-styled experience.
Lion Sands allows you to experience some of the best game viewing in South Africa without the crowds. You will be treated to two safaris each day, one in the early morning and the other in the late afternoon. Each vehicle is kitted out with the latest technology to ensure noise is at a minimum, comfort is of the highest standard and the carbon emissions are kept as low as possible. In addition to this you'll have access to walking safaris to get closer to the wildlife than ever before. There is also a spa on site where you can the quiet hours in between game drives.
Children aged 10 or older are welcome and will receive a discounted rate. Children's meals can be arranged as well as a whole host of activities to keep them entertained. There are babysitting services available which are payable locally.
Ivory Lodge can be accessed via a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg, otherwise fly into Skukuza Airport and a 25 minute transfer.
