Setting the scene

In a dramatic setting on the edge of a desert, Mihir Garh, meaning Sun Fortress blends understated luxury with a rustic elegance. The fortress mirrors the architecture of the local villages, with its rounded edges, open fireplaces and alcoves, and the colour of the stone merges seamlessly with the surrounding sand.

This fort holds nine magnificent suites. Each one is more than 1700 square feet of pure luxury. Private Jacuzzi's or plunge pools with each suite, re-define the word indulgence. The spacious rooms are either sunset or sunrise facing with substantial terraces from which to enjoy the unspoilt and enchanting desert vistas.

The food at the Mihir Garh offers both continental and Indian cuisine.

Mihir Garh is owned by a keen horseman, and boasts some of the finest Marwari horses in their stables. There are exceptional horse safaris on offer that go through the local countryside and into the desert. Furthermore, there are superb village safaris, showcasing the prevalent Bishnoi tribal culture surrounding Mihir Garh. Culinary workshops and demonstrations are held so guests can learn to make the delicacies that they enjoy here. The recipes come from books on traditional Rajasthan cooking authored by the owner's mother, Late Thakurani Sahiba Jayendra Kumari.

Children are welcome at the hotel, although there are no specific facilities for them.

Mihir Garh is an hour drive away from Jodhpur Airport.
