What we love
There is a lot to love about Amanpuri but for me the most standout features were the jaw dropping views, incredibly delicious food and the fact that you really know you are in Thailand thanks to the beautiful architecture and design of the hotel.
Setting the scene
The jewel in the crown of the Aman Hotel Group, Amanpuri has a well earned reputation for impeccable attention to detail, a high level of personalised service and tantalising cuisine.
Located on the west coast of Phuket Island, and set high in the hills amongst an expansive coconut plantation, the resort's 40 Thai style pavilions offer unique views over the aquamarine waters of the Andaman Sea, or the lush tropical gardens which decorate the resort.
With privacy in mind, each of the pavilions are secluded by the surrounding nature and connected by elevated walkways.
Out of the 40 available pavilions 3 have a personal plunge pool and for larger families or groups there is a selection of private villas ranging from 2 to 6 bedrooms.
The design is unmistakably Thai, constructed of local woods and bamboo and open sala spaces - an authentic space for guests protected from sun and rain.
For dining options at Amanpuri think an exciting fusion of 'East meets West'. Authentic Thai and modern European dishes are served in the casual 'Terrace'. On our visit we found this to be a great spot for a relaxed lunch by the pool and the mixed Thai salads are divine!
The aptly named 'The Restaurant' dishes up mouth watering Italian cuisine with a side dish of stunning sea views!
During high season (November to April) dining at Naoki Restaurant is a must. Experience French 'Kaiseki' which blends fine French cuisine with Japanese artistry in a fabulous location moments from the beach.
There is also a poolside bar for snacks and drinks which comes alive for sunset cocktails, or try the more formal Beach Club.
You can also dine in your own private sala in your pavilion's garden, or enjoy barefoot dining beneath the stars at a torch lit beach BBQ.
A unique aspect of the hotel's leisure facilities is the private fleet of 20 cruisers and sailing boats. Charter one for a great day - go fishing, scuba diving or enjoy a romantic sunset cruise.
There is an excellent fully equipped gym, including free weights, power plates, a Thai boxing arena and an extensive Pilates studio. Guests can also have some one-on-one time with a team of personal trainers and professionals.
There are also 6 floodlit tennis courts (coaching available), a 27m freshwater swimming pool and a 20m lap pool at the beach club.
If all you want to do is lie on the beach, the pristine 2km of white sand at Amanpuri is the perfect place to relax and unwind, with full beach service, showers, and changing facilities.
By the beach in a shaded spot is small children's pool. Otherwise there are no specific facilities in place for children (such as a children's club). It is also worth knowing that due to the positioning of the resort, it is not somewhere we would personally recommend for families with children under 10.
The resort is located just 30 minutes from Phuket International airport and guests staying at Amanpuri are offered complimentary return airport transfers.
