What we love
It is no wonder guests return to this resort year after year. The service is exceptional - everyone (and, we mean everyone) is friendly and offers help and assistance with a genuine smile.
Setting the scene
Tuckers Point is the British colonial island of Bermuda's only hotel offering guests their very own private beach. Impressive old buildings perch in grand imposing style above rosy-pink sandy bays, looking out over Castle Harbour, in the enchanting grounds of this property. Guests to Tuckers Point can expect to experience a heady atmosphere of tropical meets traditional, with a reggae vibe alongside sophisticated colonial features.
Of the 88 rooms, 20 are suites with deluxe extras ending in the numbers 17. The "Lucky 17" are all corner rooms with private balconies. The Walsingham Room is practically a house with dining and kitchen areas and a massive terrace.
All year you will find the The Point and Sul Verde open whilst the Sur Mer bistro is open in the summer months down by the beach club. The Point is under the Master Chef Guido Brambilla, serving multi-course global cuisine in a formal setting graced with portaiture from the old Pan-Am building. Sul Verde specialises in homely Italian cuisine but if its moules frites you are after wait for the summer when you can feast on these at Sur Mer. There is also a Hotel Bar which again is old-school and serious with wood-panelling and oil paintings of sailing ships, it overlooks the pool and serves bar snacks such as burgers. Room service is available. If you can bear to tear yourselves away from the hotel compound and all its attractions there are also good places to eat out in Hamilton.
This is a 200 acre playground with activities for everyone. Catch the tram and chill out on the hotel's own private beach where you can swim or snorkel. There are 2 freshwater pools here too or go offshore and scuba dive amongst shipwrecks or on the reef. Golfers can also tee off or play tennis on the clay courts both sports offer pro coaches for a little game improvement. Take in stunning views on the lovely walking or running trails. Get up early for sun salutations by the waterfall where the yoga classes are held or greet the sunrise with some gentle Tai Chi. The Sense Spa offers all sorts of wonderful treatments, including a salt-spray scrub, and for the gents, a proper hot towel shave in the bespoke barbers shop. One thing you won't be able to do is drive, only locals are allowed to do that, so throw away all notions of car keys and stress and if you must go out, hail a taxi or take a high-speed ferry.
Tucker's Point make a big thing of welcoming kids as they are so ideal for family vacations. Rose Buds is the club for children aged 4 to 12 and they run a daily programme catering for all types from sporty to bookworms. For those who really rely on having their offspring in a kids club it is worth noting that availability is on first come, first served basis, so places may not be guaranteed. Daily swimming is included in the programme.
Less than 90 minutes from most of the major US East Coast cities, flights are to Bermuda International Airport. Transfers can be arranged with the concierge for an additional fee. It is only 15 minutes from the airport so a taxi is a reasonable option.
