What we love

Serious luxury is always on the cards when Aman is involved - and at Amanzo'e their unequalled style and service combines with the rugged beauty of the Peloponnese to create a real winner.

Amanzoe, Peloponnese Peninsula

38 Rooms & Suites

Setting the scene

The colonnades, pools and trees of Amanzo'e are reminiscent of the citadels of ancient Greece, and from the moment you arrive you'll be treated like a king. The hotel is dotted through the undulating olive groves of the eastern Peloponnese, shrouded in the mythology of ancient Greece. Typically slick and pared-down, Amanzoe maintains the standards of the Aman brand - unmatched in service, with airy spaces, mellow lighting and wonderful attention to detail.

Sleeping

There are 38 pavilions and several villas arranged over different levels to maximise views. Inside, high ceilings, natural tones and materials such as marble and local timber create calming sanctuaries. Each pavilion has a private pool and terrace overlooking the gnarly landscape, as well as a large, walk-in bathroom and a comfortable sitting room. Villas are larger, with 25 metre pools, en suite bedrooms and private dining areas ideal for larger groups. The Aman philosophy is that simplicity is best, so gadgets and gizmos are left out in favour of a flowing design that brings the outside in.

Eating

Aman believes in provenance, so the food on offer at Amanzoe is typically and deliciously Greek, using the freshest seasonal produce the chefs can lay their hands on. The main restaurant has full-length windows meaning you can enjoy sea views as you dine, no matter what the weather; and the Lounge Bar, Beach Club and Pool Restaurant provide alternatives for a change of scene and something more casual. If you feel like heading out, nearby Porto Heli is an atmospheric seaside town with lots of dining and drinking holes to discover.

Doing

Pottering about the grounds you'll find a library, a boutique selling locally-made jewellery, handicrafts and artwork, a gym, a yoga/pilates studio, tennis courts and separate adults and children's pools. The Aman group is known for its spas, and Aman Spa is characteristically indulgent, with two hammams and therapists offering a range of treatments from facials and wraps to massages. All products are natural, and the treatments combine Asian techniques with ancient Greek beauty rituals. If you fancy a day by the beach, the team will transfer you to the powdery sands of their nearby Beach Club (open May-October) - or alternatively you could cycle. The club has a deck with sun loungers, as well as two lap pools, a dining area and watersports equipment. Boat trips can also be organised if you'd like to explore the bay. For more privacy, check-in to one of Amanzoe's Beach Club Cabanas, which provide all the comforts of your room right by the sea, including air-conditioned bedrooms and bathrooms. Massages can also be organised in the cabanas.

Playing

There's plenty of space for little ones as well as a dedicated children's pool and play area, though there is no children's club, and families might find the location limiting.

Arriving

Amanzo'e is accessed via a long winding track through the olive groves from the main road up from Porto Heli . They are 2 hours' drive from Athens; or alternatively you can charter a helicopter, which will take 25 minutes.
