What we love
Taormina's first hotel, Grand Hotel Timeo has been setting standards for luxury since the neo-classical times. Favoured by the sophisticated and graced by the elegant. It's a timeless classic that never fails to impress.
Setting the scene
Grand Hotel Timeo is the oldest and first luxury hotel to arrive atop of the rocky hills of the east coast of Sicily. Sister hotel to the Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea, the property is perched right in front of the Greek Amphitheatre and boasts simply spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Etna. Nowhere on the Island will you feel more a part of authentic Sicily and her rugged romance.
Split over two buildings, the rooms & suites are either situated in the main building of Timeo or in the separate Villa Flora property. All rooms & suites benefit from a wide range of breath-taking views of the incredible Sicilian scenery. Italian flare and opulence ooze from every corner of the beautiful decorated rooms and suites. The deluxe and classic rooms are great sizes and we love the adjoining marble bathrooms. The larger suites enjoy the same amenities but offer separate sitting areas, private balconies or terraces as standard. For those looking for the height of luxury, book the Presidential Suite which is the epitome of refined Sicilian accommodation. With over 200 sqm of private terrace complete with Jacuzzi, summerhouse and al fresco dining area, this is the ultimate home away from home.
The restaurants and bars certainly make the most of the hotel's superior location. Enjoy Sicilian delicacy in the most supreme of settings. Sharing facilities with her sister hotel, Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea (with a complimentary driving service between the two - trip taking 15 minutes), there are amble dining options. A favoured place to start an evening is to enjoy a sun downer in The Literacy Terrace and Bar which affords the most spectacular spot from which to admire the sunset or simply lose yourself in the views that unfold out on Bay of Taormina and around to Mount Etna. For during the day, lunch can be taken in the Pool restaurant under the shade of the pergola enjoying light snacks and fresh catches of the day, and for dinners with a side order of spectacular views head to The Restaurant. With a back-drop of Mount Etna and Cape Taormina, the location is surpassed only by the sensational menu on offer; mouth-watering seasonal produce, local specialities and regional wines. La Dolce Vita at its best.
