The Casina is unique: the only truly luxurious house for two in Tuscany. Even before the restoration it was hailed as the ‘Best for Couples in Italy' by Conde Nast Traveller. The 12th century stone watchtower is an idyllic, romantic hideaway set in a UNESCO World Heritage site of olive groves, vineyards, medieval villages, baroque churches and papal palaces.
A glass pavilion now wraps around the ancient nucleus opening on all sides onto the unspoiled countryside of a renaissance painting.
Recent indulgent additions include: an oxygenated infinity pool (no chlorine) that is heated in winter and fitted with a countercurrent swimming machine; a steam room and an outdoor marble hot tub with panoramic views. A flowered pergola provides shade for the bar and barbecue area (with fridge and ice maker).
The Casina is the perfect place to unwind at any time of the year, whatever the season. Totally secluded without being isolated, local shops and restaurants are 3 minutes away by car and the house itself is a great base from which to explore the delights of the area. The incredible city of Siena, famous for its historic Palio horse-race, is just 12km away; San Gimignano and the wine producing Montalcino, as well as the coast, can be reached in under an 1 hour. Florence is a mere 67km away.
The area around The Casina is a treasure trove of history, beauty, food and culture. If you are feeling active, guests will have hybrid bicycles at their disposal to explore. Choose whether to visit nearby hot springs or go river swimming, or simply glide over the land in a hot air balloon.
The bedroom suite is on two levels at the top of the ancient stone tower: the master bedroom and rainforest shower room are connected below to a drawing room with a traditional Tuscan fireplace.
The rest of the house on the ground floor consists of a modern open plan living space, encompassing a well-equipped kitchen with a medieval bread oven, a large drawing room and dining area with magnificent views, and a daybed with a marble soaking tub overlooking a fishpond. All rooms are simply and gracefully decorated. The library on the ground floor can usefully serve as a second bedroom with en-suite shower and steam room.
