What we love
The only rule at Gili Lankanfushi is 'no news, no shoes'; a wonderful opportunity to slow down the pace of life and enjoy a piece of paradise all to yourself. A spa session is even more relaxing with a view of the rich marine-life below and the diving and snorkelling experience is simply wow, wow, wow!
Setting the scene
An intimate coral island in a turquoise lagoon with jetties threading across the water to sumptuous villas; everywhere you look at Gili Lankanfushi, it's hard to resist the temptation of the sparkling water where the rich marine life of the Maldives abounds. Private butlers, private water-terraces, private dining, private movie screenings - everything about this Maldivian resort oozes seclusion, discretion - and privacy.
Spacious overwater villas will seduce you at Gili Lankanfushi, where privacy is held in high regard. Every one of the 45 luxurious villas, including Crusoe Residences and The Private Reserve, reached only by boat, has been designed with meticulous attention to detail, whilst respectful of the natural environment. A private water garden and sun deck allows you to enjoy a taste of paradise, all to yourself. With your own private butler, 'Mr Friday', available 24 hours a day, you won't want for anything. From helping you to unpack, to arranging excursions, spa appointments or topping up your essential toiletries already supplied, nothing is too much trouble.
Luxury dining with an array of private eating options leaves you spoilt for choice on this secluded island. |At the Main Restaurant on the beach, enjoy a relaxing breakfast or a romantic dinner, with a culinary fusion of East meets West. By the Sea serves an amazing blend of Japanese-European-Asian-Peruvian dishes in an intimate setting with just five tables and daybeds - as well as a Sushi Bar. Local ingredients are always used, including fish caught daily and organic produce from the resort's own gardens. Sunsets are idyllic at the Overwater Bar, set on stilts over the shallow lagoon with panoramic of the turquoise Indian Ocean. By day a casual menu is served and by night it's a magical spot to wine and dine.|A choice of extraordinary dining settings are also offered to guests - pretty much anything goes! From a candle-lit table dug into soft sand, to a bespoke barbecue at 'One Palm Island' (a private island with one palm tree), to eating sushi on a swing by the sea and enjoying garden-inspired dishes in the Organic Garden. The subterranean Wine Cellar makes for a spectacular dining venue, albeit very chilly (fleeces and hot water bottles are provided!). The sommelier hosts mouthwatering menus and wine tasting, specially selected to stimulate your palate. There's also the opportunity to sample homemade chocolates, as well as artisanal cheese and cold meats from the deli room.
The snorkelling at Gili Lankanfushi is amazing and the resident marine biologist can help you appreciate the rich bio-diversity of the Maldives. You can easily spot reef sharks, needlefish and boxfish just by standing on the edge of the jetty. The resort has its own fully-equipped PADI diving school and many renowned dive sites, including the famous Manta Point, are within a 10-minute boat ride. The Meera Spa (meaning 'ocean') lives up to its name with wonderful glass floor panels giving a glimpse of underwater life beneath massage tables, enhancing the sensual experience. A range of holistic therapies are offered with six treatment rooms, a yoga or Meditation champa, steam and sauna rooms, as well as a relaxation area with panoramic views of the sea. If you're in need of a work-out, nowhere is more exhilarating than the glass-walled fitness centre, nestled in the lush vegetation with views out to the ocean. |Watersports include kayaking, windsurfing, canoeing and Hobiecat sailing whilst on land you can enjoy tennis, volleyball, table tennis, or a quick jog in stunning surroundings. A wander around the Organic garden will show you some of the best salad in the world (the rocket rocks!). Or a quiet moment can be enjoyed in the library, where you can pick up an easy holiday read. The Jungle Cinema also offers an alternative movie/dining experience - surrounded by dense tropical foliage under the twinkling stars.
Children are welcome here and catered for in terms of room types and meals. Parents will be pleased to know that 'Mr Friday' can also keep the little ones entertained with storytelling and craft sessions.
