Setting the scene
With its large crystal clear lagoon and striking infinity pool, pristine white beaches and beautiful private bungalows, Huvafen Fushi is a stunning resort island in the Maldives. Laid back, chic and contemporary, there's a wealth of indulgent and exhilarating activities to tempt you. The futuristic spa allows you to relax deep under the ocean's surface, whilst the on-site marine biology experts reveal and conserve the natural, breath-taking beauty. Thousands of bottles in the Maldives' most impressively stocked wine cave complement the delicious dining choices in romantic settings.
Each of the 44 spacious palm-thatched bungalows has its own private plunge pool with the room types differing according to location at Huvafen Fushi. Beach Bungalows are set right on the sand, whilst Ocean and Lagoon Bungalows are set over water on a long ovate pier off the island. The glass floors in the Ocean Bungalows, give you an ever-changing view of the marine life below and the sunsets from the terrace are very romantic. The three Pavilions feature infinity pools and private butler service, but the ultimate is the 'Cube' - a two-story beachfront sanctuary in a world of its own. Add a private charter and sleep aboard this 65-foot dhoni (motor cruiser), complete with a 24-hour crew to take you to the most romantic spots in the Maldives.
So many dining experiences to choose from at Huvafen Fushi. Salt gives the ultimate seafood dining experience, in a setting literally over the water. Casual, chic beachside dining can be enjoyed all day at the sandy-floored Celsius. Raw serves up healthy spa cuisine in a chilled out bar and lounge over the reef - a juice bar by day, a cocktail bar by night. Fogliani's brings a slice of laid-back Italian fare to the Maldives with traditional wood-fired pizzas and fresh antipasti under a canopy of coconut trees. Vinum is the resort's unique cellar cave, eight meters under the ocean in the middle of the island. Stocking 6,000 wines with rare vintages and hidden gems, an exquisite wine-matched dinner here is one of a kind. |The ultra-cool Umbar shakes up designer cocktails and bar snacks on the beach bringing cool, breezy glamour to the evening. Intimate dining can be arranged pretty much anywhere on the island - take a gourmet picnic to a private spot on the sand, dine under the stars in the Cardamom Lounge, head to the edge of the ocean reef On the Rock, surrounded by flickering flames, or take dinner into the shallows of the infinity pool with its glamorous fibre optic lights.
Underwater is where all the action is here at Huvafen Fushi - whether you're diving into the ocean wonderland or relaxing at the world's first underwater spa. LIME Spa invites you to a surreal setting for sensual treatments, with two of the eight treatment rooms under the ocean, with an ever-changing view of the tropical fish. There's also 'thermal zones' with sauna and steam room, relaxation lounge with panoramic ocean views, a salt-water flotation pool and a gym and yoga pavilion. |The PADI diving centre runs daily programmes for beginners and both Scuba and Open Water Diver certification courses for the more experienced. The resident marine biologist can take you to the best spots and explore the spectacular Coral Garden with green turtles, schooling fish and reef sharks. |Sunset fishing is a captivating affair - and is the perfect time for the big fish to bite! Other activities include a dolphin cruise, whale shark spotting, big game fishing (think barracuda) and exhilarating motorised watersports. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle boats and kayaks are a gentler way to get out on the water - but the list of activities is endless. If you prefer to explore the underwater world without getting wet, take a night time trip to the SpaQuarium with the resident marine biologist. Discover vibrant tropical marine life, sip champagne and enjoy canape's in the most memorable setting, under the Indian Ocean.
Children are welcome here, although not recommended, as no activities are specifically laid on for little ones - and it's surrounded by water. Having said that, budding divers as young as eight can join in the fun with the 'Bubble Maker' programme at the dive centre.
The nearest airport for international flights is Velana International Airport. From there it's a 30-minute speedboat ride to Huvafen Fushi.
