What we love
The all American dream destination, California is large enough to class itself as a country in its own right.
Think California and you’ll no doubt think Orange County. This iconic county has helped catapult California into the hearts and minds of the masses. Renowned for its lengthy coastline and stunning beaches, the well-documented laid back political nature ensures that California and her inhabitant’s welcome visitors with warm, open arms.
Yes there’s glitz and yes there’s glamour. Almost impossible to escape with cities and districts such as Los Angeles & Hollywood (we’ve all seen the film Pretty Woman!) but it would be incorrect to assume California is all about sunshine and movie stars.
Occupying almost half the length of America’s West Coast, the State is home to an eclectic blend of opportunity. And no holiday here is complete without having tackled the Route 1 Pacific Coast Highway. This route meanders along the coastline taking you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
For those in search of the finest examples of New World wines, California holds the key to your heart. With several distinguished vineyards including Napa Valley & Sonoma Valley scanning from North to South, the choice is infinite. We just advise keeping the wine tasting & Route 1 as separate activities – preferably days apart!
And for those in search of losing themselves in the wilderness, make sure you head to Yosemite National Park. A World Heritage Site this oasis of waterfalls, lakes, mountain streams and deep valleys is the centre piece of California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range. The photos you’ll bring home will be the envy of everyone. No filter required. Just pure, unadulterated, innocent beauty.
- Get caught up in the wave of happiness that floods this state – there’s no such thing as a frown in California!
- Keep an eye out for Whales as you skirt along Route 1.
- Try surfing. Santa Cruz is the home of ‘breakers’.
- Leave room in your luggage. The shopping opportunities combined with favourable exchange rate are too good to resist.
- Go to the pictures. Hollywood is the home of cinema.
