Alpine Summer - The hills are alive

Not normally a first choice for summer vacations, The Alps are generally only thought of as a winter destination for snow sports enthusiast. Well to that I say you have obviously never watched 'The Sound of Music' and seen Julie Andrews dancing around lush green mountains, with clear blue skies, seemingly high on crisp mountain air!

During the summer months The Alps really do come alive, but these days with a whole lot more than 'the sound of music'. There is an abundance of activities to keep all the family entertained. From hiking to horse riding you will be sure to fill your holiday with a daily dose of adrenaline.

If it's a slower pace that you are looking to enjoy then head to the Italian Dolomites. Announced as an UNESCO world heritage site in 2009, it is the perfect place to find a quiet spot, enjoy a strong Italian coffee and a good book whilst soaking up the sunshine and stunning views. Among the pretty villages lies Alta Badia, which for me is nothing short of a foodie paradise where you will find not one but 3 Michelin stared restaurants to choose from.

Summer is also host to a great selection of festivals and cultural activities, Veriber Festival takes place throughout the month of August. Switzerland is also a great place to visit if it is a pampering treat you are looking to enjoy.Switzerland has long been renowned for its spa heritage, in fact each of our properties in Verbier have fantastic in-house wellness facilities, perfect for a relaxing holiday; massage, beauty treatments, yoga, pilates, meditation etc can all be organised for you.

OS Private Travel has access to a broad range of chalets, lodges and hotels across all of the main mountain destinations, as well as some of the lesser known gems. Whether you are looking for the perfect family resort or something a little quieter, we believe that The Alps really does have it all covered.
