All this cold weather that is creeping in is starting to make the team at Oxford Private Travel want to be back in the sunny Caribbean!
For me there is one particular island that I cant wait to return to...
Anguilla is a warm and welcoming island nestled in the Northern Caribbean. Just 16 miles across, this tiny island is blessed with a huge amount of beauty – think gleaming white beaches, washed by crystal clear seas. Better than that, as I discovered when I was there in February, dining on Anguilla is quite frankly a real experience! The island has an award-winning dining scene that offers discerning travellers international sophistication, and creative cuisine that fuses fresh local flavours with delights from both the land and sea. The artistry of some of the chefs - both Anguillian and from abroad, is unmatched anywhere in the Caribbean.
However its something else that got me excited and that is the little beach shacks offering Anguilla’s own affordable foodie scene. These are a great place to hang out and enjoy delicious food and, as the locals say, ‘relax and lime’!
Here are three of my favourites;
Blanchards Beach Shack – Meads Bay Beach is located right next door to the famous Blanchards Restaurant. Blanchards Beach Shack offers a delicious alternative in a picture-postcard setting.
The menu is fresh with all-time favourites; Lobster rolls, a spicy Jerk chicken sandwich, tacos with homemade corn tortillas made fresh daily and big bowls loaded with rice, beans and your choice of mahi, shrimp, beef, pork or chicken. The menu also features cocktails to die for such their own rum punch, and an extensive list of frozen drinks (mango coladas and frozen mojitos were top of my list!)
D’Sand Pit - Meads Bay at Anacaona Hotel is situated on the lovely Meads Bay and is open to guests and visitors. This new little shack is a perfect spot to enjoy a cold drink and light lunch. It is what it is - a simple bar on an incredible beach with breath-taking views, friendly staff and totally laid back. This is a great new addition to the ever growing beach bars on island.
Garveys Sunshine Shack – Rendezvous Bay a small, wooden, and brightly decorated shack situated along from Cuisinart Golf Resort on and Spa on Rendezvous Bay. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent if you want to spend the afternoon and lounge. It is an ideal spot for an afternoon, loved and frequented by many visitors to Anguilla.
