Our favourite UK staycations

Covid-19 has not provided much upbeat news over the last few months but one definite positive that has come of being more restricted with our travel plans has been the discovery of many wonderful places to go away to on our doorstep in the UK.  Many will associate a holiday with getting on a plane however this is not a necessity.  We have put details of a few of our favourite staycation spots below.

Watergate Bay Hotel, Cornwall

Located on a spectacular two mile long sandy beach near the lively town of Newquay in Cornwall, Watergate Bay is the perfect choice for a beachy staycation.  Catering for couples and families alike there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.  With the sea right on the doorstep it is hard to resist a refreshing morning swim and the walks along the coastal paths around the hotel are stunning.   For younger guests there is an amazing Kids’ Zone offering graffiti workshops and cooking classes as well of course as the “must do” surf lessons.  And did we mention the 6 different dining options…. A stay at Watergate Bay will make you wonder why you always go aboard for holidays.

Gleneagles, Scotland

We have been told numerous times that if you visit Gleneagles you are sure to return – several of our guests have been going yearly for over 20 years.  The iconic hotel is the perfect place for a staycation. Well known for its championship golf courses (hosting many international championships throughout the year), Gleneagles is so much more than a golf resort, especially since its recent acquisition and multi-million pound refurbishment.  An outstanding spa, 2 Michelin starred restaurant, two swimming pools, incredible kids and teens clubs and an endless list of outdoor activities hosted in its 850 acre estate, it is the perfect place for a UK break.  Children are welcomed with open arms and activities on offer for younger guests include archery, Laich Loch fishing, tree climbing, zip wiring, mini Landrover driving, pottery and so much more – they don’t call it “The Glorious Playground” for nothing!

Four Seasons Hampshire

For those looking for a quick escape from London (approximately one hour drive – traffic dependent) then the Four Seasons Hampshire is a great choice.  The name alone is a guarantee of the amazing service that will await you on arrival.  Housed in a beautiful historic estate that was once home to the Dukes of Wellington, the Four Seasons Hampshire perfectly blends the traditional side of staying in a country house hotel (think afternoon teas, four poster beds and croquet on the lawn) with modern facilities such as a state of the art equestrian centre and “Sharkie’s Reef” kids adventure pool.  The hotel is a popular choice for couples wishing to escape the rush of everyday life and families looking for a break with plenty to keep the children entertained.

Churchill Manor, Oxfordshire

Following months of being separated from family and friends many are dreaming of big reunions and getting everyone together.  There can be fewer better places to do this than a wonderful country home to take over as your own to spend some quality time together. A personal favourite of ours is Churchill Manor, located on our doorstep in the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire.  Conveniently positioned between Soho Farmhouse and Daylesford in 600 acres of beautiful grounds this is the perfect place for a get together.  11 bedrooms, cinema room, children’s playroom, large outdoor heated pool, tennis courts, croquet lawn…. It really has it all.

Chewton Glen

Chewton Glen has been a firm favourite for a special weekend away for many years – perfectly located in the New Forest and close to the South Coast it offers warm and cosy accommodation paired with attentive service and great facilities (fantastic spa, three AA Rosettes restaurant, wine room, tennis courts, clay pigeon shooting, golf course…  ).  More recently the hotel boosted its offering further with the launch of its Treehouses offering a unique kind of accommodation for anyone looking for an extra special break.  Now the hotel are offering great incentives to stay for longer than just a weekend, with complimentary nights for longer stays and special extras.  We can think of few places we would rather spend a few days away without the hassle of having to jump on a plane (it is barely 2 hours drive from London).
