Summer in the Alps – top 10 ways to tire out kids!

Summer in the Alps - our top 10 ways to tire out energetic kids!

Many of our clients ask us to help put together a holiday that will keep both parents and children alike happy…. This is a challenge that we love and as much as many of our 'seaside' destinations are amazing for a relaxing beach holiday, we think that the Alps in the Summer is a perfect solution for families who are looking for great weather, luxury accommodation and excellent service to ensure a relaxing break - but with enough to do to keep even the most active of children happy.

Here are our top ten tips to keep even the most hyperactive of children entertained!

  1. Mountain Biking in Les Gets - the downhill World Championships are held here!
  2. Your chalet will prepare you a picnic lunch to take on a hike - all resorts have an amazing network of signed hiking trails for all abilities - we especially love taking the Sunnegga Express in Zermatt and walking back down to the village via Winklematten.
  3. Tiger Woods started playing Golf at the age of 2! Why not try a golf lesson at one of the beautiful courses throughout the Alps, such as Verbier Golf Club or Crans-sur-Sierre, where the European Masters is held each summer.
  4. Experience an exhilarating day out on a 'Via Ferrata' ('Road of Iron') - a mountain route which is equipped with fixed cables, ladders, and bridges - brilliant fun and a great way to get to parts of the mountains that otherwise you wouldn't be able to.
  5. A day out watching the Tour de France as it passes through many of the Alpine resorts every summer
  6. Chalet terraces are the perfect spot for Yoga and Pilates - private instructors deliver fun-filled classes especially aimed at children and teenagers - you're never too young to learn!
  7. Go and jump off a mountain! (Preferably harnessed to an instructor to do a tandem Paraglide - one of the best things we've ever done in the Alps and an experience you'll never forget)
  8. Go Canyoning in Les Gets - experience amazing underground canyons and caves.
  9. Challenge each other to your own version of the French Open at the free tennis courts in Les Gets, or the tennis courts in Zermatt right in the centre of the village, surrounded by fantastic mountains on all sides.
  10. Horse-riding is a great way to get out and experience the mountains - most resorts have riding stables and offer full instruction.

After all that activity, we then recommend a relaxing BBQ on the deck of your chalet, watching the sunset with a well-earned glass of wine (while your children sleep soundly!)
